Loving what you do

Success is not the key to happiness. Happiness is the key to success. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful. – Albert Schweitzer
This is the last post about the inner game of distinguishing yourself. The next posts about distinguishing yourself will focus on the outer game. According to Rajesh Setty the last step of the inner game is about love. Within this step of exploring ones inner self consider that passion rules. Problems arise so that heroes may overcome them. Remember of course that Success=Love what you do and Do what is required.
The Grand essentials of happiness are: something to do, something to love, and something to hope for. – Allan K. Chalmers
The true way to render ourselves happy is to love our work and find in it our pleasure. - Francoise de Motteville

Making Lasting Impressions
Filed Under Making Lasting Impressions | 2 Comments
Our moments of inspiration are not lost though we have no particular poem to show for them; for those experiences have left an indelible impression, and we are ever and anon reminded of them. – Henry David Thoreau
Rajesh Setty lists in his book Beyond Code that the fourth step of the inner game of distinguishing oneself is to make lasting impressions. In making lasting impressions you show that you care about both others and the quality of your work. Be resourceful, and go beyond the call of duty. Most of all, leave a legacy so that people in general, or people at your company or project remember you when you’re gone.
If you want to win friends, make it a point to remember them. If you remember my name, you pay me a subtle compliment; you indicate that I have made an impression on you. Remember my name and you add to my feeling of importance.- Dale Carnegie

Are you eating more fat than you realize?
Filed Under Weight Loss | 2 Comments
Part of personal development is weight loss if you are overweight due to the fact that being overweight can contribute to many health problems. I personally love salads as a meal or part of a meal from time to time. Are you someone who loves salads and are using them as a part of your weight loss plan? If you are eating salads in order to lose weight you could be sabotaging your weight loss plan. Here’s how this may be happening:
Did you know that any type of oil used in foods or in cooking are high in fat? This includes the various types of oils used in salad dressings. This includes oils that are thought to be healthy such as olive oil. Unfortunately many Americans consume 60 grams of added fat each day in the form of oils.
The culprits in question here are refined or extracted oils. They are 100 % fat. What can you do to avoid sabotaging your lettuce and other green salads?
Here are some tips that you may follow:
1. Don’t use salad dressing on your salad. Include enough of a variety of vegetables in it that it has a naturally good flavor.
2. Use flavored vinegars. There are several available now and some even come in convenient spray bottles so that you may spray your salad with these vinegars.
3. Use fresh lemon juice as a flavoring. Take a fresh lemon, cut it in half and squeeze the juice out of it directly into your salad.
If eating a green salad without salad dressing doesn’t appeal to you then here’s some ideas to watch the amount of fat that you are consuming:
1. Make sure that you use salad dressings that use unrefined oils. Unrefined oil has bioactive components. This gives them healthful benefits and provide full-bodied flavor. It also makes the oil more prone to oxidation.
2. Rather than pouring salad dressing directly onto your salad pour a small amount such as two to four ounces in a small container. Dip your fork into the container randomly as you eat the salad and by the time you are done eating the salad you should have consumed much less salad dressing than you normally would have.
My advice is to eat your green salads. Use organically grown lettuce, preferably fresh Romaine whenever available, and if you are careful about what you put on your salads you should start to lose weight, especially if used with other healthy lifestyle habits.

As I walk’d by myself, I talk’d to myself And myself replied to me; And the questions myself then put to myself, With their answers I give to thee. – Bernard Barton
According to Rajesh Setty the third step in the inner game of distinguishing yourself is to look. Look both beyond what is expected of you and at places, ideas, people and other influences with which you can learn from and leverage. This includes such things as your schooling, religion, and your circle of influence among other things of importance to look at an examine your life.
You should examine yourself daily. If you find faults, you should correct them. When you find none, you should try even harder. - Israel Zangwill
We learn more by looking for the answer to a question and not finding it than we do from learning the answer itself. – Lloyd Alexander

The Importance of Laughter
Filed Under Laughter | Leave a Comment
At the height of laughter, the universe is flung into a kaleidoscope of new possibilities. – Jean Houston
Do you know that through laughter you can help distinguish yourself? Not only that laughter can be helpful in fighting illness as you are more positive and encouraged by it. Rajesh Setty says that the second step in the inner game on the course to distinguishing yourself is to laugh. The most important thing is to laugh at yourself, to not take yourself too seriously.
If you can laugh at yourself you are likely to make more friends and develop your character. To thrive in your work choose a place where everyone takes their job seriously, but does not take themselves too seriously.
Laughter gives us distance. It allows us to step back from an event, deal with it and then move on. – Bob Newhart

Learning and distinguishing yourself
Filed Under learning | Leave a Comment
The purpose of learning is growth, and our minds, unlike our bodies, can continue growing as we continue to live. – Morris Adler
This post is another based upon the book Beyond Code by Rajesh Setty. In the journey to distinguish oneself their are several steps in what is known as the inner game and the outer game. The first of these steps of the inner game is to learn.
Learning, which is an ongoing journey of building long lasting relationships, communication skills, identifying strengths in order to run with them, setting the right expectations, keeping a scorecard of this journey, and reading the right materials. Although there is a great deal more to this learning process, in summary of the chapter from Beyond Code on learning, is to remember to seek information, develop a powerful network, and be prepared for rapid context switches. Also, one must remember to learn by teaching what you want made clearly known to others.
What we have to learn to do, we learn by doing. – Aristotle
